MUNICH — On March 10th, 2021, cleversoft’s ESG4insurance service went live with ESG (Environmental, Social and corporate Governance)/SFDR Transparency documentation for over 1300 investment funds. These investment funds are tied to unit-linked insurance policies that are now able to maintain compliance with new EU sustainability regulations, due to the implementation of the new ESG4insurance software. With this coverage, cleversoft takes the market lead, covering more than 50 percent of the insurance market for the DACH region.
While the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) is a great step forward for consumers — and society — by improving sustainable investments, over the past twelve months, financial institutions have struggled to implement the new rules. Particularly, the lack of available data, agreed upon data exchange formats, and portfolio transparency have made it difficult to adhere to the changes.
Building a turnkey solution to address these implementation challenges was of critical importance to the cleversoft team. To accomplish this goal, the team collected the required data from more than 100 asset managers, serving the DACH market, and were able to produce tailor-made documentation that would continuously update the respective websites, and automatically notify clients.
“With this solution, we enable our customers to be fully compliant with the European SFDR (Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation) regulation for investment funds in unit-linked insurance products — from day one,” explains Lisa Waldherr, Executive Director of cleversoft’s insurance business. “We understand the technical and operational challenges our clients had to overcome, since the SFDR regulation was published in 2019, and this has been a key driver to solve for us ever since. We are proud to help solve these challenges in a timely and easy to implement manner with our cloud-based regulatory platform.”
Later this year, when the final Regulatory Technical Standards are released, cleversoft will release an update to the ESG4insurance service. This update will keep clients compliant as additional requirements are introduced, come January 1st, 2022.
“For the Bayerische Versicherung sustainability is deeply anchored in the investment principles. Communicating these principles to our customers as part of the new EU regulation is a major challenge. cleversoft’s turnkey solution and the commitment of the entire team have resulted in a timely delivery. cleversoft has made our day-to-day work much easier. We are now looking forward to the further expansion stages of the regulation in order to be able to offer even more transparency to our customers” was the post-go-live feedback from one of cleversoft’s frontrunner clients, Die Bayerische Versicherung.
Asset managers and banks are also supported through ESG4banks and ESG4AM. These industry-specific services will assist banks and asset managers with maintaining compliance as additional requirements are introduced, like the Regulation on the establishment of a framework to facilitate sustainable investment (EU 2020/852) - Taxonomy Regulation, which also takes effect on January 1st, 2022.
