On 24 September 2025, EIOPA published an update to the Solvency II taxonomy roadmap  outlining two possible application dates for SolvencyII taxonomy version 2.10.0, awaiting industry consultation.

Key Points

There are two proposed application dates for taxonomy 2.10.0:

Option 1: 30 January 2027 ‘– Legal Alignment

 –  Q4/Annual 2026 reporting remains under taxonomy 2.8.2

 – Q1 2027 reporting begins under taxonomy 2.10.0

Pros:

  • Allows undertakings to ease the reporting workload for the 2026 annual submission by permitting them to leave empty the templates marked for deletion (included in taxonomy version 2.8.2).

Cons:

In 2027, undertakings would need to report using two taxonomy versions simultaneously Q1 2027 with the updated 2.10.0 taxonomy, and the 2026 annual report still using 2.8.2. Industry feedback suggests this dual reporting approach is more complex and costly than switching taxonomies at year-end.

Option 2: 31 December 2026 – Industry Preference

Pros:

  1. Aligns with the current practice and industry preference to apply new taxonomy updates at year-end.
  2. Implements the proposed reductions for Q4/annual 2026 reporting, allowing industry to benefit from the simultaneous rollout of aligned templates for annual 2026 and Q1 2027 reporting.

Cons:

  1. Requires a clarification in the ITS stating that changes to the annual S.22 LTG templates should only be reported starting Q1 2027, not in the annual 2026 submission.
  2. Since changes to S.22.01 are minor, the updated template can be retained, with deleted fields removed and new data reported only from 2027 onward.
  3. As S.22.06 has undergone significant changes and been renamed to S.22.07, to avoid having both templates in the taxonomy (one for 2026 and one for 2027), industry consultation is needed to assess whether S.22.07 could be used already for the annual 2026 reporting, excluding data not yet available.

Timeline

EIOPA invites all interested stakeholders to provide comments to EIOPA via the EU Survey no later than 10 October 2025. In 2026 the industry needs to Preparate for taxonomy 2.10.0 implementation where full application is depending on selected date above.

Industry Impact

Reporting teams must prepare for either reporting either 2027 Q1 reporting on 2.10.0, or 2026YE and 2026 Q4  on 2.10.0 pending on the options above. Either way template changes require system and process updates
