Our complex world is governed by a multitude of laws, ordinances and other regulations. Banks, insurance companies and institutional investors must adapt their processes to these constantly changing regulations in order to comply with legal requirements. With solutions that are constantly adapted to these changes, the Munich-based cleversoft group GmbH has developed into a renowned and globally sought-after provider of compliance software.
‘Let’s do it again’ is cleversoft group GmbH’s motto and claim for the next five years. ‘Let’s do it again’ is intended to motivate the company to quadruple its turnover, which has grown fourfold over the past five years, in the same period.” We are fast and flexible and we are deep,” says Florian Clever, founder, CEO and shareholder of cleversoft group, describing the recipe for success.
With the latest products such as SFDR for the Sustainability-related Disclosure Regulation and IFRS 17 as an international accounting standard, cleversoft guides its customers through the complex jungle of regulations and ordinances. Other products deal with the Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), product information sheets (PIB software and services) and the Solvency Directive for insurance companies (Solvency II).
Florian M. Clever was already writing freelance software programs at the age of sixteen before studying business administration and electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich. While still a student, he founded companies in the USA and Shanghai. Finally, in 1999, Clever Software solutions, which was also newly founded, formed the basis for the successful cleversoft group GmbH.
Initially, products for investment funds were launched on the market, but from 2011 the young company increasingly focused on regulatory software for Germany and the EU. Six Financial and Helaba were among the first major customers. In 2018, the Dutch private equity company Main Capital Partners became a shareholder, enabling the acquisition of further companies.
With the acquisition of RegTech providers SecondFloor in 2019, BusinessForensics in 2020 and CDDS in 2021 and CW360° in 2023, cleversoft significantly expanded its expertise in regulatory reporting and the prevention of financial crime. The cleversoft group took a further step towards strategic growth and expanding its position as a leading global provider in the RegTech sector by recently entering into a partnership with Levine Leichtman Capital Partners (LLCP), which acquired the shares of Main Capital Partners.
Today, the cleversoft group employs around 180 people. In addition to the headquarters in Munich, there are branches in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, The Hague and Luxembourg. With 42 employees, another location in Sofia, Bulgaria, is now the second largest branch. The main shareholders of cleversoft group are company founder Florian Clever and investor LLCP; management and key employees also have a broad stake in the company. The DACH region, Switzerland, Northern Europe and the United Kingdom are currently particularly strong market regions. “In addition to our traditional sales activities, we also acquire many customers through recommendations,” says Florian Clever. “We also present our products in webinars and have a presence on social media.”
Sustainability is a matter close to the heart of the company founder and Managing Director: “I have three children and I don’t want Italy to become the Sahara in the long term. Equality is also part of sustainability for me. We have a 50% share of women in our Bulgarian subsidiary.” In terms of internal processes, the company is reducing the proportion of communication on paper as much as possible and no longer books flights within Germany.
The atmosphere within the company has certainly played a significant role in the cleversoft group’s rapid success. Florian Clever: “We are very international, many cultures are represented here and our company language is English. We are very open with each other and have a strong culture of discussion and error management. We also communicate very quickly and directly.” Managing Director Florian Clever enjoys success, building organizational structures and has a keen interest in the content of his work: “I was able to gain a lot of experience during my time in the USA and Shanghai,” he says happily. “I want to continue to learn new skills and perspectives and have the best team for this.”
